Royal Hospital, Chelsea

Project Description

The accommodation at Chelsea Hospital was due to be upgraded and modernised to give members of the armed services up to date facilities. This involved moving the Georgian Oak façade to retain the original fabric and aesthetics of this iconic grade 1 listed building whilst creating the modern facilities demanded by the care and protection of these special and highly valued service personnel.

The Challenge

Fully traceable matching English Oak was specified for the intricate repair of the existing Georgian screens together with speciality kiln dried materials for feature radiator covers and fit out of the cubicles.

The Results

Due largely to the attention paid to the detailing and selection of materials and the exemplary craftsmanship that went into the project, the wards have the character and feel of the original wards but now incorporating every modern facility to help in the treatment and recuperation process of Britain’s heroes.
